4.5 Role Based Collaboration

A key concept of /me is to support role based self-management. Every member can manage their own work based on their role definition. Collaboration between different roles can be done via tensions. This is what we call role based collaboration. For instance, under a project that one role owns, role filler can initiate a tension to another role/person to get others involved in this project.

Let's have a look at how this can be done in reality.

Create a tension from a project

On /me, project is used when a task involves multiple steps to complete and/or requires collaboration with other roles. When other roles' contribution is needed, we can send a tension from this project to other roles.

  1. Find a project under your own role, click "+tension" button to send a tension to another role/person.

Create a new tension from a project

The same tension creation action can be achieved using the +Tension button in the top navigation bar and the + button on lower right hand side.

2. In the new tension creation popup, we can see that this tension is created from this project.

Link between a tension and its parent project
  1. Since we know which role owns this project, the tension raiser role will be prefilled. At the same time, a project can only send a tension from its owner role, therefore this tension raiser role is not changeable.

  2. If this tension is not linked to this project, click on the checkbox in front to unlink them. In this case, you can choose a different tension raiser.

Once this tension created, on tension card and inside of a tension detail, this tension's parent project is shown.

Whenever there is status update to a tension, this project owner will see the updates inside of its project.
